Fireworks booth

The Atwater/Winton Lions Club will have its ninth annual Fireworks Booth Sale through Saturday in the parking lot of the Atwater United Methodist Church on Bellevue Road.

All proceeds will benefit the Lions many projects as well as Camp Pacifica for the Hearing Imparied.

Deep pit barbecue

Coulterville Fire Brigade will host its 40th annual deep pit barbecue from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at Coulterville Park (next to Hotel Jeffery on Highway 49).

Forego all the holiday traffic and come celebrate the Fourth of July with us with our great deep pit barbecue, games, a watermelon-eating contest and live entertainment. Bring your bathing suits and be on the lookout for water balloons. Cost for meals is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Exhibits to fair

If you entered exhibits in the fair, July 11 is the last day to bring your exhibits to the fairgrounds.

Items will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for divisions including crafts, hobbies, clothing, textiles, preserved foods, fine arts and photography.

Calvary Assembly of God will host an Independence Day celebration at 6:30 p.m. today at the church, 1021 R St.

Volleyball camp

The city of Merced and Danny Dupont will hold an annual youth volleyball camp from Monday through Thursday and July 13 to 16 from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Cost is $50 and a T-shirt and lunch are included. Camp is open to ages 3 through ninth grade.

Mature Driver class

The Merced College Continuing Education Office is offering two Mature Driver Improvement noncredit classes for residents over 55.

In Merced, it will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday at the Merced Tri-College Center in Building 1. In Atwater, it will be from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. July 16 at the Atwater Community Center, 760 Bellevue Road.

A $2 state certificate fee is required to be paid to the instructor. Some insurance groups offer an insurance discount when you complete this class.
